Manchester United and West Ham United both made attempts to sign 28-year-old VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in the winter.
According to a report by BILD, Manchester United and West Ham United are two clubs that wanted to sign Serhou Guirassy in the winter. The 28-year-old has been on fire since the start of the season, the English wanted to bolster their attack by adding him to their ranks.
Guirassy’s dominant display since joining Stuttgart
Guirassy arrived at the German club in the summer of 2022 from Stade Rennais. He initially joined them on a season-long loan before the move was made permanent last summer. It has to be one of the best transfers in Stuttgart’s history given the kind of impact he has had on the team.
The 28-year-old striker has featured in 53 matches for the club and has contributed towards 45 goals. In the ongoing season, he has featured in 25 matches and has found the back of the net on 27 occasions. He has scored 25 goals in the league which has taken him past the club record set by Mario Gomez (24) in the 2008/09 season.
His exceptional form hasn’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs have kept an eye on the 28-year-old and could make a move for his services in the upcoming transfer window. While his contract with the German outfit runs until the summer of 2026, he could be on the move in the near future.
There is a release clause of around €20 million which could lead to his departure given the amount of interest in his services. Manchester United and West Ham United are two clubs that have shown interest in the Stuttgart ace.
United and West Ham wanted to sign him in January
They tried to sign him in the January transfer window but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. However, they could return for his services in the near future as both clubs still need attacking reinforcement.
United want to sign a proven goal scorer who can support Rasmus Hojulnd and that is why they wanted to sign the 28-year-old in the winter. Guirassy could be a great addition to their ranks as he will be a cost-effective signing.
The Hammers were keen on signing Guirassy in the winter as they wanted to bolster their attack. Michail Antonio’s contract is running out and Danny Ings is also in the last leg of his career. As a result, they desperately need a new number nine.
While both United and the Hammers failed to sign him back in the winter, they can return for his services in the summer. Both English clubs can easily fork out €20 million to sign someone of his quality but they will surely face a lot more competition this time out.
