Manchester United closing in on landing Jason Wilcox, Liverpool links rubbished

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Manchester United are close to appointing Southampton chief Jason Wilcox as their new Technical Director.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Jason Wilcox will soon take charge as the new Technical Director of Manchester United under the new part owners. The Red Devils are all set to undergo major changes on the pitch as well as off it ahead of next season and the arrival of the Southampton chief is one of them.

Manchester United’s new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have full control over Manchester United’s sporting decisions following the purchase of a minority stake in the club. Since taking charge, they have been looking to make major changes in the background staff to ensure they can return to their old glory days.

Former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada will take charge as their new CEO while Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth will be the Sporting Director. While United and the Magpies haven’t reached an agreement over the compensation, they are expected to arrive on the same page in the near future.

Jason Wilcox to join Manchester United

Meanwhile, they are looking to bring in Jason Wilcox as their Technical Director. Wilcox was a part of the Manchester City setup for 10 years. He was their academy manager before joining Southampton as their Technical Director last summer.

His impressive work at City is what has attracted United’s attention. They have been in talks with the 52-year-old regarding the move for a while now and he has agreed to make a switch. He has informed the Saints about his desire to join the Red Devils.

According to Romano, Wilcox has already resigned and it is time for both clubs to hold talks regarding compensation before the former City academy manager can get started with his work at United. The Red Devils will look to ensure they get it done before the next season gets underway.

Romano dismisses Liverpool links

While reports did link the 52-year-old with Liverpool, Romano has diminished those rumours. There is no truth in such stories and there is no chance of him joining the Reds. The two parties have never had a concrete negotiation with them.

Wilcox only wanted Manchester United and the transfer expert has guaranteed that he will join the Red Devils as their new technical director and that it is only a matter of time.
