Aston Villa are reportedly keen on the Northern Ireland defender Trai Hume.
According to a report from the Belfast Telegraph, the Premier League side are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old defender and they are looking to make a move for him at the end of the season.
They are not the only English club keen on signing the highly-rated defender and they will face competition from Bournemouth, Leeds United, Leicester City and Napoli. The Sunderland defender is highly rated across Europe and he has a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a key player for Aston Villa with the right guidance. The opportunity to move to the Premier League will be a tempting proposition for him and he will look to prove himself at the highest level.
A move to the West Midlands club would be a major step up for him and it remains to be seen whether he can force his way into the starting lineup next season.
Aston Villa need a quality defender
It is no secret that Aston will need to bring in defensive reinforcement at the end of the season. The talented young defender could prove to be the ideal long-term replacement for Tyrone Mings. Mings is currently sidelined with a serious injury, but his performances were quite mediocre prior to that. He will need to be replaced in the coming months if Aston Villa are serious about challenging for trophies. They are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they will need better players at their disposal in order to do well in European competitions.
Aston Villa certainly have the finances to get the deal done and they will be a much more attractive destination compared to the other English clubs. However, Napoli could prove to be a formidable of opposition in the transfer race.
However, the Northern Ireland star might prefer to stay in English football, and therefore a move to Aston Villa would make more sense for him. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.
