Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Mohamed Salah tipped to leave Liverpool in summer

Keith Wyness believes Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker could depart Liverpool and follow out with Jurgen Klopp.

Many Liverpool fans have yet to come to terms with the fact that Jurgen Klopp will no longer manage the club following the current season. The German boss announced his intention to leave and take a break from football earlier in January, which shocked many supporters.

While the media is busy formulating names that could replace Klopp, most are not focused on the other changes that could happen at the club. Often, when a long-term manager departs a club, some senior players tend to follow suit.

For instance, during Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, many of his trusted players left in the coming period. Similarly, with Liverpool, there’s a massive chance for some of their critical stars to go, with Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness suggesting it could be Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker who could follow suit as his comments appeared on Football Insider.

Wyness said, “The spine of this Liverpool team may go in the summer.”

I think Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are the sort of players that will leave. And it’s because they’ve seen their relationship with Jurgen Klopp. “It’s difficult to redo the success that they’ve had with a new manager.”

Whereas the younger players are much more keen to do that and to make their mark with a new manager – that may suit them better. But I do think some of the older spine of the team may actually go. “

Van Dijk recently hinted at a potential departure once Klopp leaves, and there will surely be many clubs chasing his signature. The Dutchman was considered one of the transformational signings under Klopp and genuinely changed the club’s landscape.

Similarly, Alisson, who came six months after Van Dijk’s arrival, has proved his worth and is currently one of the best keepers in the world. Some even consider Brazil the Bester League, and his departure will surely be a blow for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah seems the likeliest to leave Liverpool after heavy links to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ittihad came in with a massive offer last summer and could follow up with another significant outlay on the Egyptian. Without Klopp, Liverpool might choose to cash in despite suggestions they might offer him a new contract.

In theory, Wyness’s thinking may not be wrong, although these players could still give Liverpool another year and help them transition from the Klopp era.
