Manchester United will make decision on Mason Greenwood future by May

Manchester United will make a final decision regarding the future of Barcelona target Mason Greenwood by May.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United want to ensure they make a decision regarding the future of Mason Greenwood before the end of May. The Red Devils want to have clarity on the matter before heading into the summer transfer window.

Greenwood has not featured for Manchester United since January 2022 when he was initially arrested. The charges against the 22-year-old were dropped midway through last season. But, the Red Devils decided to wait until the end of the season before making a decision regarding his future.

After an internal investigation carried out by the English club, they did consider the idea of reinstating him in the team. But that notion was not appreciated by their fans, players and other important people at the club.

As a result, Manchester United sent him out on loan to Getafe before the start of the 2023/24 season. The 22-year-old has been on fire since making the move to Spain. He has been Getafe’s best player by par and has 12 goal contributions in his 25 outings.

He is expected to return to his parent club after the end of the season. But, there is still no clarity over his future at Manchester United. They are yet to decide on whether to reinstate him or to permanently offload him.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen on deciding Greenwood’s future by May

Manchester United’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who now has full control over United’s sporting decisions, is open to the idea of bringing him back to the club. Greenwood has huge potential as a football player, and he can surely help their cause.

And, if it was a purely football decision, he would have already been in their first team by now. But, unfortunately, a lot needs to be taken care of before that can happen. As far as Erik ten Hag is concerned, he has no problems welcoming him back if all parties are on the same page.

As a result, Ratcliffe has asked his team of trusted advisers to resolve the Greenwood issue before the end of the season. He wants to have a clear idea about the future of the 22-year-old before the end of May so that they can head into the market knowing exactly what needs to be done.

Barcelona’s interest in Greenwood

Barcelona are one of the clubs interested in Mason Greenwood. They have been monitoring him closely in La Liga and feel he could be an ideal fit for them. However, the Red Devils have no intentions to negotiate with any club before the end of the season.
