PSG rival Liverpool in Levi Colwill chase

Paris Saint-German are reportedly keeping close tabs on Liverpool transfer target Levi Colwill’s situation as Chelsea prepare to sell academy players in order to balance the books in the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs via CaughtOffside, Paris Saint-Germain are admirers of Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. However, the Blues will reject any offer that comes their way in the 2024 summer window.

The 20-year-old returned from an impressive loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, and has since established himself as a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, making 29 appearances across all competitions this season.

Colwill put pen to paper on a six-year contract last summer, tying the versatile defender to Stamford Bridge until 2029.

However, Chelsea are under pressure to conform to Premier League profit and sustainability criteria, and players like as Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah, and Colwill all been linked with transfers away from west London.

Cashing in on academy products could be deemed “pure profit” from Chelsea’s standpoint, and a potential deal for Colwill has put both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain on alert.

Liverpool, for one, have a settled centre-back partnership of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate this season, while Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez have also impressed when called upon to deputise for either starting centre-back.

However, with injury-prone defender Joel Matip’s contract running out at the end of the season, they might be tempted to dip in the market for a top-quality acquisition.

PSG enter Levi Colwill transfer race

The French outfit are resigned to losing Kylian Mbappe after the 25-year-old informed PSG that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. His contract expires on June 30, which means arguably the best player in the world will be on the move for no transfer fee.

Real Madrid are the favourites to sign Mbappe and it has even been claimed that he has already signed a contract with the Spanish giants.

PSG are in line to save up to €300 million when their talisman departs, which will free them up to go on a massive summer spending spree. They want at least one striker, a midfielder and a centre-back.

Colwill fits the type of player that PSG are seeking to sign as they aim to build a team of world-class, young individuals in the post-superstar era. However, Chelsea’s stance is quite stern around Colwill, the England international is not going anywhere.

Although the Pensioners’ have no fears over losing Colwill at this time, with the club looking to offload a key academy product in Conor Gallagher, much to the chagrin of Mauricio Pochettino and Stamford Bridge faithful, a future Colwill sale should not be ruled out completely.
