Bastian Schweinsteiger claims Xabi Alonso dreams of Liverpool job

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Xabi Alonso at the end of the season.

The Spaniard has done an outstanding job at Bayer Leverkusen and he is being tipped to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. Alonso’s former teammate and former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has now revealed that it is the 42-year-old’s dream to manage Liverpool, and he is highly likely to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season.

“I know him, and I am sure his dream is to coach Liverpool,” Schweinsteiger said (h/t Mirror). “I am sure he will leave Leverkusen in the summer.”

Alonso is regarded as one of the finest young managers in European football, and he could prove to be an exciting addition for Liverpool. Klopp is set to take a sabbatical from management and Liverpool will have to replace him adequately.

The 56-year-old German manager has done an exceptional job at Anfield and stepping into his shoes will not be easy for any manager. However, Alonso is a talented young manager with a bright future ahead of him and he could continue Klopp’s legacy in the coming seasons and help Liverpool win major trophies.

He has helped Bayer Leverkusen compete for the league title season and the German out are currently on top of the league table. It remains to be seen whether the 42-year-old can guide them to league title and move to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The German outfit are currently on a 21-match unbeaten run in the league, having picked up 17 wins and four draws. If Alonso manages to guide them to the title, it will be a phenomenal managerial achievement.

There is no doubt that the 42-year-old is good enough to manage the biggest clubs in the world and a move to Liverpool will be an attractive option for him. The former Liverpool midfielder has always been vocal about his admiration towards the club and he has previously stated that it would be an honour for him to manage clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Liverpool must look to bring a quality replacement for their charismatic German manager and their former midfielder certainly seems like the ideal fit in theory.
