Amad Diallo keen on completing late loan move to Sunderland

Manchester United’s 21-year-old winger Amad Diallo is pushing for a loan move to Sunderland before the window shuts.

According to a report by Football Insider, Sunderland are keen on bolstering their attack before the end of the January transfer window, and they have their eyes on Amad Diallo. They want to push for a return to the English top flight and feel the 21-year-old could help their cause.

Amad Diallo in a Soup

Diallo came into the limelight quite early in his career. He came up the ranks at Atalanta before securing a £37 million move to Manchester United in the winter of 2021. Things have not really gone according to plan for the Ivory Coast international since making the move to England.

But, he did have an impressive loan spell at Sunderland last season. He was a standout player for the Championship club. The 21-year-old scored 14 goals and registered four assists in all competitions, helping them finish sixth in the league.

Post his return to Manchester United, he has failed to break into Eirk ten Hag’s first team. The Dutch manager has preferred Antony and Alejandro Garnacho on the right flank, and the former Atalanta forward has only had 36 minutes of first-team football.

The lack of game time is not doing him any good, and the player is keen on parting ways on a temporary basis. He is aware of the Black Cats’ interest in him and has asked the Red Devils’ chiefs to sanction his departure.

A Return to Sunderland on the Cards?

While Sunderland are keen on having him, and Diallo is willing to make the move. But the deal is being held up by Manchester United, who want the Championship club to cover most of his wages during the loan stint. With hours remaining in the transfer window, the 21-year-old is pushing for a loan move. And since he is not a part of ten Hag’s plans, they should eventually sanction his departure.

His arrival will bolster the Black Cats’ attack and their chances of making a return to the English top flight. But, since he has only had 36 minutes of first-team football since the start of the season, it won’t be easy for him to get going even if the move does take place.
