Corinthians are making moves to acquire the services of the 20-year-old Arsenal attacking sensation Marquinhos.
According to a report by Rádio Itatiaia, Corinthians are keen on having Marquinhos in their ranks. The Brazilian club wants to bolster their squad in the ongoing transfer window and they have their eyes on the 20-year-old Arsenal forward.
Maruinhos came up the ranks at Sao Paulo, he made it to their first team in the summer of 2021. After an impressive first season for the Brazilian club’s senior team, Arsenal came calling and managed to win the race for his services.
He hasn’t really had the best of times since joining the Gunners. The 20-year-old was out on loan at Norwich for the second half of last season. He joined FC Nantes on a season-long loan in the summer of 2023. While he was expected to be there until the end of the season, Arsenal terminated the deal because the player didn’t get enough minutes on the pitch.
He has returned to the north London club but there is no place for him in the first team at this stage. As a result, Arsenal are looking for a potential loan destination. While multiple clubs from across Europe and Brazil are keen on the signatures of the 20-year-old, Corinthians are the only ones that have started making moves to sign him.
The Brazilian club have already held primary talks with the English club’s management, represented by Edu Gaspar. They are keen on having the Brazil youth international in their ranks to further bolster their attack. Corinthians want to sign the player on loan until the end of the season, possibly with a buy option.
While the Gunners would be ready to sanction a loan move, they are unlikely to sanction his sale given the kind of potential he has. Meanwhile, the President of the Brazilian club will travel to Europe this week to advance negotiations with the English club.
While the club have kept the purpose of the visit confidential, the report suggests Marquinhos is one of the reasons for the trip.
