Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of allowing young attacker Facundo Pellistri to join La Liga side Granada on loan for the remainder of the season.
According to Spanish outlet Granada Hoy (via Sport Witness), Manchester United star Facundo Pellistri is edging towards the Old Trafford exit door as Granada are in advance talks with the Red Devils’ to acquire his services on loan until the end of the season.
Although boss Erik ten Hag is still looking to make his first acquisition since Sir Jim Ratcliffe wrapped up a £1.3 billion deal to acquire a 25 percent stake in the club during the festive period, there have been a fair few departures during the winter transfer window.
Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho have been among the most high-profile departures, with the former joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan with a £9.5 million option to make the move permanent and the latter deported back to Dortmund. And now it seems Pellistri is also in line to embark on a fresh challenge in search of more opportunities to prove himself.
Pellistri originally joined Manchester United from Penarol in 2020. Pellistri has made 24 appearances for Manchester United, with a couple of loan spells with Alaves in between, but he has yet to score his first goal for the club despite showing flashes of his flair.
This season, he has found playing time at Manchester United hard to come by despite the poor form of Anthony and Marcus Rashford. In total, he has made 14 appearances, including nine in the Premier League; he has only made one start.
There were said to be multiple clubs interested in the 22-year-old, including Sevilla, PSV, and more recently AS Roma, but fellow Uruguayan Alexander Medina, the incumbent Granada manager, is believed to have convinced the winger to join his side as they look to escape relegation from the Spanish top-tier, currently sitting in 19th place, five points from safety.
The player has said “yes” to the move that will see the Uruguay international head out on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Granada are ready to go on a deal and are in the “final phase” of the financial negotiations with Manchester United to finalise the signing, with the two sides believed to be in discussions over the proportion of the player’s wages the Andalusian club will have to bear. The above report adds that there’s confidence all around that the deal will be closed sooner rather than later.
