Ligue 1 club Marseille are reportedly keen on re-signing 23-year-old French defender Nuno Tavares from Arsenal.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Marseille are hoping to re-sign Nuno Tavares, who is currently on loan at Premier League club Nottingham Forest. The Ligue 1 outfit had previously loaned in the Arsenal outcast last season.
Nuno Tavares in a Soup
Nuno Tavares has struggled for regular game time at Nottingham Forest, and he has played just three matches in the Premier League. He needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and rejoining Marseille would be ideal for him.
He was on loan at the Ligue 1 club last season, and he was a key player for them. The defender made 39 appearances across all competitions for them last term, scoring six goals as well. It is evident that he is not a regular starter for Nottingham Forest, and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal decide to bring him back to the club and sell him this month.
Marseille need defensive reinforcements despite signing Ulisses Garcia. So, it is hardly a surprise that they are keen on signing the 23-year-old defender. The Portuguese wide man knows the club well, and he is a proven performer with them.
Will Nuno Tavares Leave Arsenal for Good?
A permanent exit from Arsenal would be ideal for the talented young defender. He does not have a future at the North London club, and they will not be able to offer him regular starts in the coming seasons. A move away from Arsenal would help him focus on his development with regular football at another club.
The 23-year-old is certainly good enough to start regularly for Marseille, and he could develop into a key player for them. If he manages to fulfil his potential in the coming seasons, he will have plenty of opportunities to join big clubs in the future.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few days. Nottingham Forest should let the player leave if they do not plan to use him regularly during the second half of the campaign. Sitting on the bench at the Premier League club is unlikely to benefit either party.
