Liverpool ready to sell Caoimhin Kelleher, identify Anthony Patterson as replacement

Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, and they have identified Anthony Patterson as a potential replacement.

A report from Daily Mirror has claimed that Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has been identified as a potential alternative for Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher by Liverpool. The Reds want £20 million to sell the 24-year-old.

The Caoimhin Kelleher Conundrum

Kelleher has been an important first-team player for Liverpool, especially in the cup competitions, and he helped them win domestic trophies last season. But with interest rising in his services, a departure might be on the cards.

The 24-year-old needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and a move away from Liverpool would be ideal for him. Ideally, the Reds would not want to lose a quality backup keeper like him. But they will be powerless to stop him from leaving if the player is intent on a transport.

Clubs like Brentford and Celtic have shown interest in the player in the past, and it remains to be seen whether they come forward with an offer to sign him in the summer. Liverpool will reportedly demand £20 million for his services. The 24-year-old goalkeeper certainly have the quality to justify the investment, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Regular football at a high level could help him improve further and fulfil his tremendous potential. There is no doubt that Kelleher has the quality to start for Premier League clubs. But he needs regular exposure at this stage of his career.

Although Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the country, and the opportunity to play for them can be prestigious. Kelleher should focus on his own development, and he needs to join a club where he will get ample first team opportunities.

He is unlikely to  get regular opportunities at Liverpool, especially with Alisson Becker ahead of him in the pecking order. The Brazilian international is a world class goalkeeper, and he is likely to be the first name on the team sheet for as long as he is at the club.

Meanwhile, Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is quite highly rated in English football, and he could prove to be unable under-study to the Brazilian international. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can get a deal done for Kelleher in the summer and sign the 23-year-old as his replacement.
