Manchester United, Real Madrid vying for Karim Benzema

Manchester United and Real Madrid could take advantage of Karim Benzema’s situation at Al-Ittihad and bring the Frenchman on loan.

According to Fichajes, Karim Benzema could find himself back in Europe, with Manchester United and former side Real Madrid keen on signing him on loan. The veteran French striker has experienced problems with Al-Ittihad, as there are tensions between the two parties that could see the experienced star leave on a temporary basis.

Is Karim Benzema returning to Europe?

It has been six months since Karim Benzema decided to call time on his Real Madrid career and make a lucrative switch to the ambitious Saudi Pro League. Al-Ittihad snapped the veteran French striker on a costly deal, which may have already backfired on them after recent events.

Benzema has yet to rejoin the club’s training for the resumption of the current season, and now Marcelo Gallardo has kept him out of the travelling party to a training camp in Dubai. The incidents have sparked rumours about an imminent departure for the experienced star, with some top-rated clubs already dreaming of singing the Frenchman.

Real Madrid, who are in the market for a new striker to replace Benzema, could end up re-signing the veteran Frenchman on a temporary deal. They have sights on a big-name, long-term option like Erling Haaland; Florentino Perez might consider taking Benzema back on a temporary basis.

Similarly, Manchester United could also angle for a move for Benzema to aid Erik ten Hag in improving his forward line. The Red Devils have been linked with several striker options, including Serhou Guirassy, as the manager wants someone to complement Rasmus Hojlund.

Could Karim Benzema join Real Madrid or Manchester United?

In theory, yes, he can join either of those sides in January, with the deal likely to be a loan move rather than anything permanent. The veteran French striker may yet solve his issues at Al-Ittihad and keep playing for the Saudi Pro League side.

Manchester United and Real Madrid would ideally like to jump at such an opportunity to bring the experienced star to fulfil a temporary role. The Red Devils have seen links to Joshua Zirkzee, among others, and there are realistic challenges in getting a young, established forward in January.

Real Madrid already have eyes on a big forward signing next summer. Still, for the time being, Carlo Ancelotti might see the wisdom in bringing a player of Benzema’s calibre back into the fold.
