Jose Mourinho would be interested in the Newcastle United job as there are doubts whether he would manage Roma next season.
According to Football Insider, Jose Mourinho could emerge as the top contender for the Newcastle United job and reportedly remains open to taking over at St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s job has come under tremendous pressure following a raft of disappointing results, while Mourinho could leave Roma.
Jose Mourinho to Newcastle United?
In light of some recent results that have seen Newcastle United drop down to ninth place, Eddie Howe’s future has come under increasing pressure. The English manager did manage to steer the Magpies to Champions League qualification last season. The owners demand the same outcome this term, but that looks increasingly difficult right now.
Hence, they are probably looking at a solid replacement option for Howem, with Jose Mourinho as one of the names on their list. The Roma boss is reportedly making moves in the background and might consider leaving Roma as his contract expires this summer.
Mourinho remains open to taking over at Newcastle United should an opportunity arise. The Magpies owners are looking for a big-name manager, and the Former Premier-winning manager perfectly fits their plans.
Mourinho might see this move as an opportunity to reinvent himself and properly return to the Premier League. Whether he would replace Howe immediately remains the question, but the Magpies might approach him if they end up sacking Howe now.
Eddie Howe to leave Newcastle United?
Newcastle United have so far not indicated that Howe’s role is under pressure. The club are aware of the quality they have in their squad, and may still keep trusting the current manager to do the job. However, if the team keeps producing dismal results, then the ownership might be forced to take a drastic step, including handing Howe the sack.
Girona boss Michel remains a target in that scenario, but for now, the Magpies might stick with Howe at least until the end of the season. Mourinho’s name might appeal. To the owners, it appears neither they nor the Portuguese are in any particular hurry to carry out a new operation.
Howe probably has a few games more to prove his worth, and if he can turn around Newcastle’s season, then that does give him a new lease of life. If not, then figures like Mourinho will start circling, which could lead to Howe’s dismissal in one form or another.
