Manchester United will reportedly not include an option to buy in Jadon Sancho’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Jadon Sancho is on the verge of leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund likely to seal a spectacular deal to re-sign the winger.
Manchester United have been quite busy in the January transfer window, which has only been open for a few days. After failing to offload a deadwood in the summer, Erik ten Hag has already managed to get rid of Donny van den Beek, and it seems that exiled winger Jadon Sancho will follow suit in the coming days as a return to Borussia Dortmund edges closer.
Sancho has been completely out of the first-team picture lately, having endured a very public falling-out with manager Erik ten Hag, having criticised the Red Devils’ boss in public and accusing his manager of lying about him and making him a scapegoat.
Ten Hag, a strong disciplinarian, prevented Sancho from accessing any first-team facilities at the club’s Carrington training camp and has refused to consider him for selection until he delivers a public apology, which never arrived.
On the pitch, it’s fair to say he never really fulfilled his potential at Old Trafford, despite looking like such an impressive young talent during his Dortmund heyday. The England international may still be able to revive his career with a return to the Bundesliga.
Despite rumours of interest from Premier League rivals West Ham, Sancho is said to be pushing for a return to BVB, who sold him to the Red Devils for €85 million in 2021. Sky Germany reported earlier this week that Dortmund were working on a six-month deal for the Manchester United star, with United set to bank a measly €3.5 million loan fee and set to cover majority of his weekly wages.
But now Fabrizio Romano says the negotiations are not sorted out just yet, and some issues are delaying the move, including working out whether or not there will be an option to buy Sancho in the summer.
The player’s horrendous form means his stock has fallen dramatically, and United’s operations owners, INEOS, are against a cheap purchase option.
A loan agreement is likely to suit both sides, with Sancho using his time in Germany to reestablish his reputation and worth ahead of the summer, when Manchester United may either sell him permanently or attempt to bring him into the team if Ten Hag faces the chop.
