Arsenal are reportedly studying the prospects of signing Fikayo Tomori, but AC Milan are in no rush to sell the 26-year-old defender.
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal have added Fikayo Tomori to their list of potential central defenders and could approach over a move. AC Milan considers the 26-year-old defender one of their top performer and are in no rush to sell the former Chelsea star anytime soon.
Arsenal showing an interest in Fikayo Tomori
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are keen on landing a new centre-back in the January window, as that’s an area in the squad that still has shortages. Arsenal does not have proper cover for their regular central defenders, something the manager would like to address as soon as possible.
There are a lot of games ahead for the club this season, and Arteta does not want to make the same mistake from last season. They have already lost Jurrien Timber to a potential season-ending injury, while Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White have carried niggling issues.
Amid links to many players recently, Arsenal have added Manchester United target Fikayo Tomori to their shortlist. The 26-year-old AC Milan star has been a solid performer for the Serie A giants since making the switch from Chelsea in 2021.
He has already helped them with the Scudetto and continues to rise in stature at the San Siro. Tomori and his family are reportedly Arsenal supporters, as per the report, and if the Gunners push on, they might have the chance to sign him. However, Milan are in no rush to consider his exit as he has a contract until 2027.
Arsenal are chasing an important centre-back
After a few weeks of links to various names in the market, there are those whom Arsenal cannot realistically sign. For instance, despite an interest in Matthijs de Ligt, the chances of them signing the Bayern Munich man are low. Similarly, their other targets, Sporting CP duo Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio are too costly for them in January.
They are keen on Ajax’ Jorrel Hato, but the teenager is seen more as a signing for the future, as the Gunners might exploit a market opportunity by bringing him. As for the Diomande interest, there’s something about it, as Arsenal reported that they made a bid for him during the summer, only to see it rejected by Sporting.
Now, as for the Tomori interest, theoretically, if Arsenal are seriously keen, then they might even try and send Jakub Kiwior the other way. However, the Gunners reportedly rebuffed an approach from Milan for the Pole, which probably tells a story that they are not looking to sign Tomori in January.
