Manchester United ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo in January, with Tottenham also interested in the French centre-back.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United may have an advantage over Tottenham in the chase for Jean-Clair Todibo. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s expected arrival and close ties with OGC Nice will help facilitate the deal in the Red Devils’ favour.

Some top Premier League sides will enter the January window hoping to sign a new defender. Manchester United and Tottenham desperately need a new centre-back after facing problems since the start of the season.

Manchester United may have lost faith in World Cup winner Raphael Varane as Erik ten Hag has failed to select the Frenchman in his last few games. They are also missing Lisandro Martinez for the long haul, meaning the Dutch manager would want a new centre-back to arrive.

Tottenham are in an even deeper hole, as their four defeats in their last five games suggest. They have little depth in the defensive department, which became evident since the injury to Micky van de Ven. Ange Postecogloun would surely want someone as cover and competition to stake a claim at a top-four place at the very least.

Tottenham recently showed interest in Jean-Clair Todibo, who had previous links to Manchester United. Spurs have other targets but fancy approaching the £40 million-rated French international.

Manchester United are in pole position for the defender owing to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s potential arrival at the club. The Red Devils will announce a minority stake for the INEOS supremo very soon, who would then take control of sporting operations.

He had already earmarked a move for Todibo before investing in Manchester United. There’s clearance for business activities between clubs under the same ownership. The Red Devils will look to sign the £40 million-rated French international in January.

OGC Nice have a valuation in place for the defender, which in the current market seems fine for Premier League sides like Manchester United. The arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe will boost their chances of signing Todibo ahead of Tottenham, as he’s a player Ten Hag would like at the club.
