RB Leipzig are leading the race for the signatures of the 17-year-old sensation Assan Ouedraogo amidst interest from Liverpool.
According to Christian Falk via Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, RB Leipzig and Liverpool are both keen on having Assan Ouedraogo in their ranks. The 17-year-old sensation has made quite a name for himself and his impressive performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.
Ouedraogo joined the FC Schalke 04 youth academy back in the summer of 2014. He has since come up the ranks at the club. The teenage sensation was promoted to their first team ahead of the ongoing season.
The central midfielder has so far featured in a total of 11 matches for the senior side and has even contributed towards two goals. He has been used as a left winger as well as an attacking midfielder on occasion this season. And, his impressive start in the German second division has attracted a lot of attention.
RB Leipzig and Liverpool are two clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Merseyside club signed multiple midfielders during the summer transfer window as they wanted to complete a midfield overhaul. The Reds have the majority of the pieces they need but Jurgen Klopp is still looking for a few more midfielders.
The German manager is an admirer of the 17-year-old and would love to have him in his ranks. His versatility could be of great use for the Reds and he could be a great signing for the long term.
Meanwhile, Leipzig have been monitoring him for a while now and they have an advantage over Merseyside in their pursuit of the German youth international.
Falk on Leipzig having the edge: “Leipzig has an advantage over Liverpool when it comes to Assan Ouedraogo. The player’s father was already in negotiations in Leipzig. FC Bayern also met with him, but now know that Leipzig are favourites. The player would like to stay at Schalke, as the move comes too early for him. But if he has to change, it would be better in Germany first. It seems like Liverpool will have to be patient.”
The German club have already been in contact with the player’s agent and according to the transfer expert, the 17-year-old will prefer to continue in Germany. His priority will be to continue in Schalke but if he decides to leave, he will prefer joining a top-tier club in his own country.
A move away from Germany at this stage is something Ouedraogo doesn’t prefer. As a result, the Merseyside club might have to be patient in their pursuit of the teenage sensation.
