Liverpool rival Arsenal in Douglas Luiz pursuit, Aston Villa uninterested in sale

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, also a target for Arsenal.

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Liverpool will provide stiff competition to Arsenal in the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz. Apparently, he is valued at £80 million, but Aston Villa are unwilling to sell him anytime soon.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and could prove to be a quality acquisition for Liverpool. The Reds need to sign a quality defensive midfielder, and Luiz certainly fits the profile.

The Aston Villa midfielder could be the ideal partner for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in the middle of the park. Liverpool tried to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer, but they failed to get a deal done. Players like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo were on their radar, but both players ended up joining Chelsea instead.

Liverpool are searching for a quality defensive midfielder in January, and Luiz would certainly improve them. He is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact if he joins Liverpool. The Reds have started the season well and are currently third in the league table, two points adrift of the league leaders.

There is no reason why they cannot compete for the league title with the right additions. Signing a quality defensive midfielder in January could transform them. In addition to providing defensive stability to the side, the arrival of Luiz will allow Mac Allister to operate in his natural role as well. It would get the best out of the squad.

The Brazilian midfielder is likely to be tempted to join a big club like Liverpool, and it remains to be seen whether he tries to force an exit if there is a concrete proposal on the table. Meanwhile, Arsenal want Luiz as a replacement for Thomas Partey, who has been linked with an exit in recent weeks.

Luiz would improve both clubs, and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Having said that, it is not surprising that Aston Villa do not want to sell him. They are fourth in the league table and chasing Champions League qualification. They will not want to lose a key player midway through the campaign.
