Tottenham Hotspur are keen on acquiring the services of the 21-year-old Southampton shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having Gavin Bazunu in their ranks. The 21-year-old has been on the radar of Spurs for a while now and his progress has impressed the scouts of the club. They could soon make a move for his services.
Bazunu was a part of the Manchester City youth ranks before he joined Southampton in the summer of 2022. The Saints acquired his services for a fee of £15 million. He didn’t really have the best of starts to life at Southampton as he struggled in the Premier League.
In his 37 appearances in all competitions, he conceded 61 goals. But, the 21-year-old has had a much better start to the 2023-24 season in the Championship. His impressive performances of late have attracted a lot of attention.
Meanwhile, Bazunu first emerged on the radar of the London club last season. They have been monitoring him ever since and his progress of late has impressed the Tottenham scouts. They feel he is a top prospect and Spurs are interested in acquiring his services.
Tottenham have been doing wonders since Ange Postecoglou took charge. And, his signings have played a huge role in their initial success. The Australian boss reshaped Spurs’ goalkeeping situation as he acquired the services of Gugliemo Vicario from Empoli for a reported fee of £17.2 million.
Vicario has taken over from Hugo Lloris as Tottenham Hotspur’s number one. The French World Cup winner is now expected to part ways with Spurs in the near future. They might mutually terminate his contract in the winter window and let him leave for free.
While they do have Vicario as their number one, they are looking for a capable cover and feel Bazunu could be a great fit for the club. Spurs are looking to invest in young prospects who can help them in the long run and the 21-year-old can surely take over as their number one in a few year’s time.
Spurs are serious about their pursuit but they could face a major roadblock as City might have the option to buy the shot-stopper back from Southampton as per reports.
