Newcastle United handed boost in pursuit of Ruben Neves

Newcastle United have received a major boost in their pursuit of 26-year-old Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to a report by 90min, Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the services of Ruben Neves. The 26-year-old midfielder has been on their radar of late, and they are looking to bring him back to the Premier League. And the recent decision to not ban transfers between related clubs has come as a boost for them.

Neves was on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe during the summer before he decided to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. While the former Wolves midfielder has done a decent job on the field since making the move to the Middle East, he has been linked with a move back to the English top flight.

Multiple clubs have been linked with him. Newcastle are one of the clubs that are quite serious about their pursuit of the 26-year-old. The Magpies have suffered a huge blow as Sandro Tonali has been handed a 10-month-long ban. He had become an integral part of the first team since arriving in the summer from AC Milan.

With Tonali no longer in the mix, Eddie Howe feels they need reinforcement. The Magpies are keen on bringing Ruben Neves back to England. He has the experience of playing in the Premier League and seems to be an ideal replacement for Tonali.

While Newcastle want to sign him on a loan deal from Al-Hilal in the winter, there was a major roadblock as both clubs are owned by the PIF. It coincided with a shareholder meeting where all 20 Premier League clubs were present to vote on a ‘fast track’ measure to ban loan deals between associated clubs.

The Magpies have now received a major boost as the majority did not vote in favour of the decision. 14 clubs needed to vote in favour, but there were only 12 clubs that wanted a change in the existing rules that permit loan deals between associated clubs.

Newcastle, Manchester City, Chelsea, Sheffield United, Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Burnley all voted against the ban. If the motion had passed, the Magpies could only sign him on a permanent basis. But, things are much easier for them as they can bring him on a short loan.
