Liverpool picked up a morale-boosting 3-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday, with Darwin Nunez impressive.
Liverpool put on a clinical display at home to grind out all three points against West Ham United, with Darwin Nunez among the best performers. The Reds are now second in the league table, two points adrift of the defending champions Manchester City.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has now heaped praise on strike or Darwin Nunez for his performances this season. His comments to the media after the match appeared on Goal.
Klopp said, “[He has made] massive steps in the last few weeks. He’s a threat. You all saw the goal, it was probably pretty good, right? That was really strong. He was always available for us. It’s super important that we have now kind of a ball-player. Chip the ball, get it on the chest, from there – like we scored the third [against] Wolves for example, I think it was a similar situation – it’s super important for us.”
“And the defensive work he puts in now, that’s probably the main difference. He always wanted it, but he was less coordinated. Now it looks much better, we found a way that we can do it around him. Curtis [Jones] and Dom [Szoboszlai] help there a lot, with how flexible they are in that way. Really good, absolutely.”
Nunez has looked quite sharp for Liverpool this season. He scored a match-winning brace against Newcastle United recently and now, he has scored in back-to-back games against LASK and West Ham.
The Uruguayan international scored an exceptional goal against West Ham in the second half when the scores were level. It was his effort that broke the deadlock and allowed Liverpool to take control of the game in the second half.
Apart from his ability to score goals and create opportunities for his teammates, the defensive work rate he has put in has helped this side as well. The Liverpool striker is expected to improve with coaching and experience, and he could develop into a real asset for the Premier League club.
There is no doubt that he has the attributes to develop into a world-class striker. So, Klopp will hope that Nunez can build on his impressive start to the season and perform at a high level in the coming months as well.
Liverpool will be hoping to get back into the Champions League and compete for major trophies once again. There is no reason why they cannot challenge for the league title once again if they continue to perform the way they have done so far.

Nunez will also be delighted with his start to the new campaign and he will look to build on his recent performances and establish himself as a key player for the club. Liverpool paid big money for him, but he has not been a regular starter for them. Klopp has chosen to alternate between him and Cody Gakpo in recent months. But the Uruguayan international will hope to establish himself as the undisputed starter.
