Liverpool secure agreement in principle with Trent Alexander-Arnold over a new deal

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with their 24-year-old full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold over a new deal.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have managed to secure an agreement in principle with Trent Alexander-Arnold over a new deal. The 24-year-old full-back has been the mainstay of the Merseyside club for the past few years and they were keen on extending his stay at the club. Both parties have finally reached common ground.

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool back in 2004. He has come through the ranks at the club at some pace. The 24-year-old managed to break into the first team back in 2016. He has since gone from strength to strength and is currently among the best full-backs in world football.

The England international has already featured in a total of 277 matches for the Reds and he has managed to contribute towards 89 goals. The 24-year-old has played an integral part in helping them win the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title.

Despite having almost two years left on his current deal, there have been speculations about his future. And, many top clubs from across Europe are ready to prise him away from the Merseyside club. As a result, Liverpool wanted to agree on a new deal with their academy graduate and end all speculations.

They were in talks with the player’s representatives of late and according to the report, they have managed to reach an agreement in principle with the player. While there are a few minor details still left, the Reds will be happy that they are very close to securing his services for much longer than the summer of 2025.

It is believed that both parties were keen to agree on a new deal and extend his stay. The 24-year-old who is currently at £180,000-a-week at Anfield is all set to receive an improved contract and is all set to be a key part of a new project at Liverpool that aims to return to the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold last extended his contract with his childhood club back in July 2021 after their historic Premier League triumph. And, he has recently been made the vice-captain of the team following the exit of James Milner and Jordan Henderson.
