Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have agreed on a new deal with their 19-year-old prodigy Joe Hugill.
According to a report by Football Insider, Joe Hugill has agreed to a new deal with Manchester United. The 19-year-old striker is highly regarded by the people at the club and he has been rewarded for his progress with a new and improved contract.
Hugill joined the Red Devils back in October 2020 for around £300,000 after coming through the ranks at Sunderland’s youth academy. The teenage sensation started off with their Under-18 team and is currently a part of their Under-21 setup.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at National League side Altrincham. The 19-year-old featured in seven matches and he even managed to find the back of the net once. After an impressive loan spell, Erik ten Hag rewarded him with a place in the United first-team for the pre-season tour to the United States.
He managed to impress the Dutch manager and senior coaches during the tour. The teenage sensation has carried his form into the new season. He has featured in four Premier League 2 games and has contributed towards four goals.
He has already found the back of the net four times in all competitions. Meanwhile, his contract at Manchester United was due to expire next summer. As a result, the Red Devils wanted to reward him with a new deal and improved terms.
And, according to the report they have managed to strike a deal with the 19-year-old after a breakthrough in talks. Hugill is all set to pen down a new deal that will run until the summer of 2026.
Meanwhile, United do not have the much-needed depth in attack. They do have summer signing Rasmus Hojlund in their ranks along with Anthony Martial. But both the strikers have their own injury concerns, as a result, extending the stay of the teenage sensation is a great move. Given his recent progress, he could soon make it to the Red Devils’ first team.
