Newcastle United would explore a deal for Lucas Paqueta when the transfer window opens in January to strengthen their midfield.
According to Fichajes, Newcastle United are keen on Lucas Paqueta ahead of the January window. The Magpies could explore a move for the 25-year-old Brazilian international if they progress in the Champions League, as they would like to reunite him with former teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Lucas Paqueta may not remain at West Ham United for long despite only signing with the club a year ago. The 25-year-old Brazilian international had the interest of many clubs before choosing to sign for the Hammers, which did surprise a few onlookers.
He did make a mark under David Moyes in his first season and helped West Ham lift the Europa Conference League title. However, late in the summer window, the 25-year-old Brazilian international was the subject of intense interest from Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola wanted a midfielder and switched his attention towards Paqueta after failing to lure his teammate Declan Rice. Man City eventually ended up signing Matheus Nunes from Wolves, but there were plenty of controversies with the Brazilian before they switched over to the Portuguese.
Paqueta became the subject of a betting allegation, after which Manchester City withdrew their interest in the midfielder. While those charges are still in contention, the Cityzens did not want any part in it.
Reports suggest they could return in January, assuming a decision on those betting charges. If they do, Man City may face competition from Newcastle United in the 25-year-old Brazilian international as Eddie Howe seeks midfield reinforcements.
Newcastle United have qualified for the Champions League after a 20-year wait. Despite having drawn the toughest group possible, the Magpies have the quality to progress into the knockout stages. Howe wants midfield reinforcements, keeping that in mind, and would like the Brazilian.
A move for Paqueta could prove tricky for Newcastle United, as West Ham may not consider selling their key player midway through the season. The Hammers, having started the season brightly, will have lofty ambitions to finish in the top six, and Newcastle, by their current form, are their direct rivals.
Hence, any move for Paqueta to Newcastle will remain at the mercy of the Hammers, who have proved themselves as hard negotiators after the summer window. While the Magpies can lure the 25-year-old Brazilian international to reunite with former Lyon teammate and compatriot Bruno Guimaraes, everything remains in the hands of the Hammers.
