Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly frustrated after Hugo Lloris failed to secure a summer transfer away from the club.
A report from the Guardian claims that Tottenham wanted to sell the 36-year-old this summer but he has not been able to secure a move away. Now he could face exile until the January transfer window.
Lloris has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. Tottenham have replaced him with Guglielmo Vicario and Lloris will have to sit on the bench until the transfer window reopens in January if he fails to seal an exit in the next few days.
The transfer window in Turkey is open until the middle of September and it remains to be seen whether the 36-year-old can sort out his permanent future before that. He was linked with a number of clubs in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and France in recent weeks.
It appears that the goalkeeper is looking for a proper sporting project before committing to a move. The 36-year-old has not been at his best for a while now and it is no surprise that Tottenham are hoping to move him on.
The Frenchman has been a key player for the north London club over the years but he has clearly lost prominence over the past year and the newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou does not consider him as a part of his first-team plans.
He was given time off to secure a move away from Tottenham during pre-season as well. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few days.
Despite not being at his best, Lloris is still good enough to play regularly and he could be a useful option for clubs in Turkey. He has the experience and leadership qualities to improve several teams and he should look to join the club where he will get ample game time.
The 2018 World Cup winner is in the twilight years of his career and he needs to play as much as possible. Sitting on the bench at Tottenham should not be an option for a player of his quality.
If the move does not go through this summer, Tottenham are prepared to freeze him out of the first-team squad and wait until the January transfer window to get rid of him permanently.
The goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract with the north London club and he will be able to leave them as a free agent next summer. It seems that Tottenham are now hoping to sell him for a knockdown price instead of losing him for nothing.
