Al-Ittihad ready to pay £200 million to sign Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move away from Liverpool all summer, with Saudi giants Al-Ittihad keen on signing him.

Mohamed Salah is reportedly a target for Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad. A report from Daily Mail claims that the Saudi Pro League champions are prepared to submit a £200 million offer to sign the 31-year-old.

Salah has established himself as one of the best players in the world, and he could prove to be a sensational signing for Al-Ittihad. However, selling him this late in the transfer window could be a devastating blow for Liverpool and they will struggle to replace him.

The transfer window closes later tonight in England, and replacing a player of his calibre will be an uphill challenge. Ideally, Liverpool will want to hold on to the player until the end of the season and then consider his future.

Saudi Arabian clubs have been extremely active in the transfer market so far, and they have signed a number of top-quality players this summer. And Salah is a player on whom Al-Ittihad are ready to break the bank on.

Former Liverpool midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have completed moves to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer as well. The 31-year-old Egyptian international is Liverpool’s prime source of goals, and his departure would weaken their attack severely.

Although Liverpool have players like Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz at their disposal, none of these players is prolific enough to replace Salah’s goal-scoring output. Apart from his ability to chip in with goals consistently, Salah remains an exceptional creator as well. His ability to fashion out chances for his teammates will be a huge mess as well.

The reported £200 million offer is good enough to tempt most clubs in the world, and it will be interesting to see how Liverpool react to the situation. The Reds had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign in the Premier League, and they missed out on Champions League qualification.

They will be desperate to bounce back strongly and challenge for major trophies this year. The departure of Salah will almost certainly end their chances of competing for trophies this season, and returning to the Champions League will be a major challenge as well. Liverpool have already rejected a mega-money bid for their talismanic forward.
