Nuno Tavares set to join Nottingham Forest

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is reportedly set to join Nottingham Forest on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Nuno Tavares is now set to join Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season. The Premier League side will have an option to sign the Arsenal outcast permanently at the end of the season for a fee of £12 million.

The Portuguese full-back was on loan at Marseille last season, and he was quite impressive for the French club. The Portuguese defender was a regular starter for Marseille, and he contributed to six goals across all competitions as well.

He will be hoping to play regularly this season as well. But Tavares is unlikely to get that opportunity at Arsenal. So it makes sense for the 23-year-old to move on in search of regular playing time. And Nottingham Forest recently stepped up their efforts to secure his services.

Tavares is not the only left-back Arsenal have decided to discard this summer. Kieran Tierney recently joined the Spanish club Real Sociedad on loan until the end of the season. Oleksandr Zinchenko is currently the only reliable left-back at the club. Arsenal have other options who can slot into the position. But the Ukrainian international remains the only specialist left-back at the club for now.

Meanwhile, Tavares will look to impress with regular performances in the Premier League now, and he could be an asset for Nottingham Forest. The 23-year-old can be quite effective going forward and he could add a new dimension to the Nottingham Forest attack. If he manages to impress in the Premier League with Forest, he might get more opportunities at Arsenal next season.

Alternatively, there could be other Premier League clubs willing to sign him permanently at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how his loan spell works out over the next few months. Meanwhile, Arsenal should look to sign a quality central defender before the summer transfer window closes.

They did well to sign Jurrien Timber from Ajax earlier this summer. But the Dutchman has picked up a serious injury and they are now lacking in depth in the defensive department. Arsenal will need more quality and depth in their side to match up to the likes of Manchester City, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right reinforcements before the window closes.
