Inter Milan leapfrog Manchester United in the race to sign Benjamin Pavard

Inter Milan are set to beat Manchester United for the signing of Benjamin Pavard as the Italians get closer to an agreement with Bayern Munich.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are set to lose out on Benjamin Pavard, with Inter Milan set to sign the Frenchman. The Red Devils were inching closer to signing the 27-year-old World Cup winner, but now the Italians have leapfrogged them for the Bayern Munich defender.

Manchester United’s problems were noticeable to everyone as they succumbed to a defeat against Tottenham. Pape Matar Sarr and an own goal from Lisandro Martinez secured all three points for Spurs, as Erik ten Hag’s summer signings failed to make a mark.

For what has been an issue since the start of the window, Manchester United needed a right-sided defender to bolster the backline. Having flirted with the idea of many top-quality names, they seemingly settled on Benjamin Pavard to join and help them reach their goals.

Pavard’s versatility to play right back and centrally would have strengthened Manchester United’s defence. Now the move is out of their grasp. After failing to offload Harry Maguire to West Ham. And now, as it appears the England star will stay put, the Red Devils may have stalled or slowed down on their plans for Pavard.

Manchester United have taken plenty of time formulating a new offer after Bayern rejected their initial bid for Pavard. Their sloppiness had allowed Inter Milan to creep in and make their proposal for the 27-year-old World Cup winner.

Now, as Manchester United were willing to offer more money, Pavard seems likely to join Inter Milan. The 27-year-old World Cup winner had an interest in joining Ten Hag’s side. He may have changed his mind since Manchester United gave no assurances regarding a transfer.

With the defender intent on leaving Bayern at all costs for a new challenge, Inter Milan seems like the favourites to sign him. Manchester United may still have a chance to make their following proposal. Still, things could depend on what’s transpiring in the background. The Italian giants must have made an excellent offer to Pavard with a long-term contract.
