Tottenham Hotspur are all set to ramp up efforts to acquire the services of Porto hitman Mehdi Taremi as they look set to bid farewell to legendary striker Harry Kane.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Tottenham Hotspur have intensified contact about a deal to sign Mehdi Taremi from Porto.
Getting a new striker will be at the top of Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham’s agenda this summer if they sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have tabled a bid that surpasses the €100 million barrier, as they hope to have Kane at the Allianz Arena by next week. They feel that is an adequate fee for a 30-year-old in the final year of their contract.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs will accept the offer on the table, but the decision will undoubtedly have significant implications for their upcoming season. If Tottenham’s record scorer ends up leaving, they may look to Richarlison to take on greater responsibility. However, they will still need to add a new, clinical striker for the post-Kane era.
With that in mind, Tottenham are actively exploring alternative options in the transfer market, and Mehdi Taremi seems to be a top target.
Make no mistake about it, losing Kane this close to the season will be a colossal loss if he heads for Bavaria, but Taremi will certainly soften that blow, the marksman bagged 22 goals last term in the league alone, with an additional five in the Champions League.
In his 343 appearances, the striker has managed 179 goals and 85 assists throughout his professional career, which goes on to show his clinical nature in front of goal. With a proven goalscoring pedigree, the Iran international has a strong track record and could be a good instant hit for Spurs.
Aside from his goal involvements, the experienced veteran has also impressed with his distribution in the final third as well as his hold-up play and ability to win duels, which makes him a perfect Kane replacement despite his advancing years.
However, landing Taremi’s signature won’t be an easy task, as Porto are holding out for €30 million, while Spurs are currently preparing to offer €24 million for the talented forward, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. However, like Kane, he is in the final year of his contract with his current employers.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes is facilitating negotiations, and with Spurs stepping up their efforts after receiving a dizzying offer for Kane from Bayern. Taremi to Tottenham rumour is definitely one to watch in the next few days.
