West Ham United formulating improved offer to sign Harry Maguire

West Ham United are preparing an improved offer to acquire the services of 30-year-old Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

According to a report by Football Insider, West Ham United are still keen on acquiring the services of Harry Maguire. The Hammers had submitted an initial offer for the 30-year-old centre-back in the recent past but it was rejected by Manchester United. David Moyes’s team are preparing an improved second bid for the England international.

Maguire joined the Red Devils back in 2019 for a fee of around £80 million. It was a world record fee for a defender that saw the 30-year-old move to Old Trafford. He started off in fine fashion and became the mainstay of the team. However, things have changed of late and he has fallen down the pecking order.

The last two seasons have not gone according to plan for Maguire. Because of his inconsistent performances in the heart of the defence, the England international is no longer a preferred choice under Erik ten Hag. The 30-year-old is behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw in the pecking order.

In the 2022/23 season, the England international featured in a total of 31 matches, but he started just 16 appearances. And, things are unlikely to improve in the upcoming season, with Manchester United ready to cash in on him.

Maguire was recently stripped of the Manchester United captaincy, and they are ready to negotiate his departure. Meanwhile, West Ham are keen on having him in their ranks. David Moyes is a big admirer of the experienced English centre-back and believes he could help their cause.

The former Manchester United manager is looking to add a new centre-back to the mix before the end of the window, and he is pushing to land the 30-year-old at the club. They had submitted a bid worth around £20 million in the recent past but it was rejected by the Red Devils.

Now, West Ham United are preparing an improved offer to land him at the club. While they are all set to place a second bid, the Hammers believe it won’t be easy to sign him because of his huge wages and the fact that he is not willing to leave the club.
