Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of 27-year-old Brentford shot-stopper David Raya ahead of next season.
According to David Ornstein, Arsenal are looking to further bolster their goalkeeping position by signing David Raya. The Gunners are looking for someone who can compete alongside current number-one Aaron Ramsdale for a place in the starting XI. And, they believe the 27-year-old Brentford shot-stopper could do wonders for them.
Raya came through the ranks at Blackburn and made quite a name for himself before joining the Bees in the summer of 2019. The Spanish international hasn’t looked back since making the move. And, he has gone from strength to strength over the years.
The 27-year-old is amongst the best in the English top flight and his numbers last season were exceptional. He featured in a total of 39 matches. Raya was a part of all 38 Premier League matches for the Bees and he ended up keeping a clean sheet in 12 of those fixtures.
Brentford ended the 2022-23 season with the fifth-best defensive record in the English top flight. They conceded just 46 goals throughout the season and one of the main reasons for their exceptional defensive record was the 27-year-old’s heroics.
With Raya’s contract expiring in a year’s time, there has been a lot of interest from across Europe in his services. Bayern Munich are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks ahead of next season. The German giants are looking to sign him on a loan.
The Bees would only agree to such a deal if he pens down a new contract with them, which at this point in time looks unlikely. Meanwhile, Arsenal are also interested in his services. Raya wants to join a bigger club in the ongoing window and he is ready to make the move to the Gunners
The 27-year-old would love to reunite with former Brentford goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana. While Arsenal are considering pushing for his services, they haven’t placed a bid yet. Meanwhile, the Bees are well aware of Mikel Arteta’s team’s interest in their shot-stopper.
