Manchester United’s need to raise cash has seen them decide Anthony Elanga’s future, as they agreed on a £15 million deal with Nottingham Forest. The 21-year-old will leave the club after a nine-year association and join Steve Cooper’s squad as soon as next week.
Forest could schedule a medical for the attacker in the coming week as he could join up for their pre-season. The move from Cooper comes after the need to reinforce their attacking setup after a season where they managed to stay in the Premier League.
Elanga was a rising star under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick but has found game time hard since Erik Ten Hag took over. He managed to play 26 games, accumulating only 702 minutes across all competitions and scoring no goals.

Last summer’s big-money arrival of Antony more or less killed Elanga’s chances of regular starts under Ten Hag. While he remained fit for most of the campaign, the 21-year-old Manchester United attacker was barely given time to prove himself.
With his sale, Manchester United made a wholesome profit and could use the money to reinvest in the squad. As for Cooper, he will seem satisfied with the signing and also the fact that Forest kept hold of Brennan Johnson. The manager also wants to wrap up the signing of Dean Henderson after an impressive season on loan.
As for Elanga, he had the interest of Everton and other clubs to sign him. Comparatively, the prospect of joining Forest may have appealed to the winger due to the presence of Cooper. The style of play a the City Ground is exciting enough for any player, and the 21-year-old chose to come here.
He will likely play a good part in their season ahead and possibly fight for a place to become a bonafide starter under Cooper. As for Manchester United, they could conduct more sales and raise funds to bring in a new striker and a midfielder in the coming period.
