Aston Villa keen on Thiago Almada

Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of the 22-year-old Atlanta attacking midfielder Thiago Almada.

According to a report by Tuttomercatoweb, Aston Villa are keen on having Thiago Almada in their ranks. The 22-year-old Argentine international who plays for Major League Soccer club Atlanta has been on fire over the past 12 months. As a result, there is a lot of interest in his services of late.

Unai Emery has turned around the fortunes of Villa since taking charge. The Spanish manager has helped them return to European football and is now focused on making the necessary changes to ensure they stay competitive in both the league and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

As they look to bolster their squad, Aston Villa have their eyes set on the 22-year-old Argentine international, who has been putting in consistent performances over the past 12 months. Almada’s exceptional performances helped him book his spot in the Argentine squad that won the FIFA World Cup 20220.

Almada came through the ranks at Vélez Sarsfield before making the move to MLS club Atlanta United in February 2022. He has since featured in a total of 52 matches and has a total of 21 goals. The Argentine international has taken his game to the next level during the 2022/23 season.

The Atlanta United midfielder has featured in a total of 21 matches and has racked up over 1800 minutes. He has been involved in 17 goals, finding the back of the net on eight occasions and racking up another nine assists.

The 22-year-old’s contract with the MLS club runs until the end of 2025. While there are over two years left on his deal, Atlanta are ready to negotiate his departure but they have set a considerable asking price of €20 million.

Meanwhile, Emery is keen on having him in his ranks. He is looking for an attacking midfielder who can make them a lot more threatening going forward and the Argentine international seems to be a perfect fit. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also closing in on signing Moussa Diaby.

While Aston Villa have started working on a potential deal, they still have a backup option ready just in case they fail to land Almada at the club. They are closely monitoring former AS Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo, who is currently a part of Galatasaray.
