Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, a target for Manchester City.
According to a report from Sky Sports Germany, Benjamin Pavard is a target for Manchester City. But Manchester United will compete with their fierce local rivals for the 27-year-old World Cup winner, and it remains to be seen who comes out on top.
The 27-year-old has been a key player for club and country in recent seasons, and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for Manchester United. The Red Devils could certainly use more quality and depth in the right-back department. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move away from the club. So Manchester United will have to bring in a quality placement in the event of a departure.
Diogo Dalot is the only other option for Manchester United in the right-back department, and the Portuguese defender has done reasonably well this past season. That said, Pavard can also be an option at the heart of the defence amid uncertainties surrounding Harry Maguire.
Manchester United will look to compete for the league title and the Champions League next term. So they need a bigger and better squad. Pavard has been competing at the highest level with Bayern Munich and France in recent seasons. He has the experience and the mentality to turn Manchester United into genuine contenders.

Apart from his defensive ability, the 27-year-old is exceptional with the ball at his feet and he will help Manchester United create goalscoring opportunities going forward. Furthermore, the Frenchman can operate as the central defender as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus for Erik ten Hag.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat Manchester City to his signature in the coming weeks. Both clubs have the financial resources to get the deal done. But the prospect of a move to Manchester City could be more tempting for the player, given their history of winning trophies consistently in recent seasons.
Pep Guardiola guided his side to a treble last season, and Pavard could be tempted to join them so that he can win major trophies every season. That said, Erik ten Hag has put together an impressive project at Manchester United so far and he helped them secure qualification to the Champions League.
The Dutchman also guided them to a domestic trophy last season. Manchester United are very much on the up and they could be an exciting project for the 27-year-old Frenchman.
