Everton plot Wout Weghorst swoop

Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst, who has returned to Burnley after his loan spell with Manchester United.

According to a report from 90min, Everton are keen on signing Wout Weghorst this summer. The 30-year-old striker was on loan at Manchester United during the second half of last season, and his performances were quite underwhelming.

The Dutchman scored just twice in 31 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, and he could prove to be an underwhelming acquisition for Everton. And it is hardly surprising why Manchester United decided against signing the Dutchman.

It is no secret that Everton need to bring in our reliable goalscorer and they should look to aim higher. The Merseyside club have also shown interest in other attackers, with a move for Wilfried Gnonto in the pipeline.

The Toffees have been quite disappointing in the last couple of seasons, and they have been fighting for their survival in the Premier League. If they want to finish in the top half, they will need to target better players.

Meanwhile, Weghorst is certainly better than the way he performed at Manchester United. The Dutchman was a prolific goalscorer in the Bundesliga, and he could be useful for Everton if he manages to recapture that form. However, he is 30 and is unlikely to get better with time. Everton should look to bring in a talented young striker with a higher ceiling.

The Toffees did well to secure safety from relegation last season, and they need to make the most of the summer transfer window and put together an impressive squad so that they can challenge for a top-half finish next season. Meanwhile, Weghorst has now returned to his parent club Burnley. And it will be interesting to see if the Clarets decide to sell him permanently.

Prior to his loan at Manchester United, he was on loan at the Turkish club Besiktas. The 30-year-old Netherlands international will look to get his career back on track with regular football and he will want to sort out his long-term future as well. There is no doubt that he could still do a job for most teams and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
