Liverpool are closing in on signing Dominik Szoboszlai, who will undergo his medical with the Premier League club soon.
Liverpool have reportedly agreed to trigger the €70 million release clause to sign Dominik Szoboszlai. And the 22-year-old is expected to sign a long-term contract with the club. The Reds started their summer transfer window with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, and Szoboszlai will be their second summer signing.
The 22-year-old Hungarian international is one of the most promising young talents in world football, and he leaves the Bundesliga having made his mark in German football with RB Leipzig. The versatile midfielder was instrumental in RB Leipzig’s domestic success over the last couple of seasons, helping them win the DFB Pokal in consecutive seasons.

Liverpool will now hope that he can have a similar impact at his new club and help them win some silverware.
Jurgen Klopp’s men had a disappointing 2022/23 campaign in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League qualification. So they will desperately be looking to send out a statement and bounce back strongly. Despite their poor performances last season, they have a capable squad and will be looking to compete for major trophies once again.
Liverpool came into the summer transfer window needing to rebuild their midfield from the ground up. Players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have looked like a shadow of their former selves, and Thiago Alcantara remains unreliable because of his consistent injury problems.
In addition to that, Liverpool have parted ways with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, with the trio becoming free agents. That leaves the Merseyside outfit with Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic as the only remaining options at the club. In addition, Harvey Elliott is an alternative to play from the middle of the park.
Club owners Fenway Sports Group were under a lot of pressure to deliver a signing that can have a transformative effect on the side. While Alexis Mac Allister will prove to be an exciting acquisition after his exploits at Brighton and Hove Albion, Dominik Szoboszlai seems like the real game-changer for Liverpool.
In the versatile Hungarian international, Liverpool will not just have a player who will directly contribute to goals aplenty, Szoboszlai is a bonafide match-winner and he will impact games in various ways.
Apart from his ability to execute eye-of-the-needle passes in the final third and link up with the attackers, Szoboszlai is exceptional on and off the ball. The Hungarian playmaker is excellent with his long passing and crossing. Blessed with a Kevin De Bruyne-esque technique, the 22-year-old is outstanding when it comes to breaking the lines with his passing.
In addition to that, Szoboszlai will add flair and drive to the team as well with his marauding runs. His movement off the ball can prove to be menacing as well, and he has proven that time and again at RB Leipzig, where he has helped open up defences with his clever runs into the channels.
The Hungarian is lethal from set-pieces and penalties as well. The 22-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a complete midfielder and a future superstar. Liverpool have missed a player like him ever since the departure of Steven Gerrard.
Szoboszlai has the athleticism, work rate and drive to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s high-intensity attacking football at Liverpool. He seems tailor-made for Liverpool’s style of play and what their team demands. The Hungarian midfielder is versatile enough to slot into different midfield roles – a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder, and a winger.
If Klopp persists with his usual 4-3-3 formation next season, Szoboszlai could start as the advanced central midfielder on the right side of the midfield. His link-up with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold could form the creative backbone of the Liverpool side.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has worked wonders with talented young players during his time at Anfield, and what he does with the 22-year-old Hungarian international’s limitless potential can only be left to the imagination. Liverpool are paying a premium price of €70 million for the midfielder. But there is no doubt that they are bagging a premium talent as well.
