Arsenal set to table bid to sign Romeo Lavia

Arsenal are ready to put forward a £40 million bid to acquire the services of 19-year-old Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

According to Daily Mirror, Arsenal are keen on having Romeo Lavia in their ranks and are ready to put forward a £40 million bid in the coming days. The Gunners are keen on further strengthening their squad ahead of next season, and Lavia is one of their targets.

The 19-year-old midfielder has made quite a name for himself in the recent past. He came through the ranks at Manchester City and joined Southampton ahead of the 2022/23 season. In his very first full season in the English top flight, the teenager has managed to impress one and all.

He featured in a total of 34 matches for the Saints’ first team and was on the pitch for over 2,400 minutes. Lavia even contributed towards two goals. The Belgian midfielder was a rock in front of his defence, and his performances have attracted Arsenal’s attention.

The Gunners were in the Premier League title race right until the latter stages, but they eventually ran out of gas. And, despite being the league leaders for the majority of the season, they ended up losing the race to Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta is keen on strengthening his squad to ensure they can push for the title again next season. The Gunners are expected to spend more than £180 million to acquire new players. The figure could go even higher if they sell players.

Arsenal have already agreed a deal for the services of Chelsea star Kai Havertz for around £65 million. And, they are now pushing for their number one priority Declan Rice. The Gunners are expected to spend around £100 million to acquire the England international, who is on the radar of Manchester City.

But, they are also looking to push for Romeo Lavia. With Thomas Partey likely to part ways with the club given the amount of interest from Italy and Saudi Arabia, Lavia could slot in as a replacement.

While the Gunners have their eyes on Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, the 19-year-old is a much cheaper and younger option with immense potential. And, given their overall expenditure, Arteta will prefer having the Southampton star in his ranks.

As a result, Arsenal are all set to place a £40 million bid for Lavia’s services. With the Saints relegated to the Championship, there is a high probability that they would sell the teenage sensation to balance their finances.
