Arsenal are ready to triple the wages of William Saliba after offering the defender a new deal worth £120,000 per week.
According to Mark Irwin of The Sun, Arsenal have already offered William Saliba a triple-your-wages £120,000-a-week contract. The 22-year-old French international is on a £40,000-a-week deal, which is expiring in a year.
Arsenal have tremendous plans for their future after a successful season under Mikel Arteta. The usage of young players outlined who is fit enough to become a long-term option for the club, with the manager set to build a team around William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
The Gunners have long since planned contract talks with many key players and have succeeded in most renewals. This season alone, they have extended the deals of Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli.
Bukayo Saka also signed his new contract, relieving most fans of the forward’s future. They are also intent on handing Ben White and Martin Odegaard new deals in the coming period, but the big worry is the situation with William Saliba.
The 22-year-old French international finally made his debut for Arsenal this season, three years after signing for the club. Arteta had earlier decided to keep the defender away and make him gain experience with loan spells away from the Gunners.
He has come back and become their rock at the back. Without him in the latter stages of the season, Arsenal tailed off from the title challenge, eventually losing the race to Manchester City. Arteta consider Saliba key to his plans for the future and does not envisage selling him.
The Gunners had hoped to reach an agreement with the defender long ago, but nothing has materialised. As things stand, Saliba is reportedly unhappy with Arsenal’s latest offer, a triple-your-wages £120,000-a-week deal.
That is a remarkable wage increase from his current £40,000-a-week takeaway. But the 22-year-old French international wants more. He might have looked at the wages Saka and Martinelli would earn and wants parity with those teammates. Arsenal intend to find an agreement as negotiations could continue through the summer.
The Gunners will eventually decide if Saliba decides to walk away from talks, as they do not want to lose him for free. PSG are among the teams circling the defender and could pay him what it takes to bring him to Paris. Arsenal do not want to lose him and might come to a compromise in the end. Saliba is key to their plans and has a big future ahead.
