Manchester United will not sign 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United do not intend on signing Marcel Sabitzer permanently. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder, who joined the Red Devils during the winter window, has failed to impress the people at Old Trafford and is all set to return to his parent club.
Sabitzer was an important figure in the RB Leipzig setup but then he decided to join the German Giants in the summer of 2021. Despite his heroics at Leipzig, the 29-year-old found it difficult to break into the Bayern starting XI.
He did get his opportunities every now and then but failed to make a big enough impact. In the first half of the ongoing season, Sabitzer made 24 appearances for the German giants but was on the pitch for just around 1,000 minutes.
This is when United came calling and the Austrian international decided to join the English club on loan. The Red Devils were dealt with a major blow mid-way through the season as Christian Eriksen suffered a long-term injury.
With the Denmark international out for weeks, Erik ten Hag was forced to enter the market in search of a new midfielder and he decided to land the 29-year-old at the club.
Sabitzer has done his bit since arriving at the club. The Austrian international has featured in 18 matches for the Red Devils and has four goal contributions to his name. He has managed to fill in for Eriksen successfully.
Despite doing a decent job, United are not really convinced about signing him on a permanent basis. They are looking at a possible upgrade in the centre of the park. United want to acquire young players with higher potential, players who can help them take the next step.
As a result, the board have decided not to sign the 29-year-old. Meanwhile, Sabitzer is out injured for the remainder of the season as he suffered a meniscal injury around two weeks back. He has already played his last game for the Red Devils and is all set to return to his parent club.
