Manchester United could offer a fee of €50 million for 25-year-old Ajax defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez.
According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United are keen on having Edson Alvarez in their ranks. The Red Devils want to further strengthen their squad ahead of next season, and they believe the Ajax midfielder can help their cause.
Alvarez came through the ranks at Mexican club América before joining Ajax back in the summer of 2019. The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. And, he is on the wishlist of many clubs across Europe.
The Mexican international has featured in 42 matches in the ongoing season and has 7 goal contributions to his name. The 25-year-old has been the mainstay of their team and his performances have attracted the attention of Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag is keen on having Alvarez in his ranks ahead of next season. The Dutch manager took charge of United ahead of the ongoing season and he has done a great job. However, Ten Hag feels that they need further reinforcement to compete for the Premier League title.
He wants United to sign the Ajax defensive midfielder. Ten Hag has worked with the 25-year-old in the past and believes he could be a great addition to their ranks. The Mexican international could form a great pair with Casemiro in the centre of the park.
While Alvarez’s contract at Ajax runs until the summer of 2025, he is likely to part ways with them in the summer given the amount of interest in his services. And, as per reports, United are ready to spend €50 million on the 25-year-old.
The English club have a lot of confidence in him and they feel he could help them take the next step. However, they are not the only ones in the race for his signatures. Even German club Borussia Dortmund are interested in acquiring him.
They identify him as a possible replacement for Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old is likely to part ways with the club in the summer. And, if he does end up leaving, they will push for the services of Alvarez. While Manchester United are ready to pay €50 million, they will have to battle it out with Dortmund. And, on top of that, it will be interesting to see if Ajax are willing to sell one of their star players.
