Josko Gvardiol no longer a top target for Liverpool

Liverpool have decided to cool their interest in 21-year-old Josko Gvardiol, who is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have decided to no longer push for the services of Josko Gvardiol. The 21-year-old has been doing wonders in the ongoing season. And, he is going to be one of the most sought-after players in the summer.

Gvardiol became the talk of the town on the back of his heroics at the FIFA World Cup 2022. The 21-year-old centre-back played a key role in helping his nation make it into the semi-finals of the global event.

Meanwhile, the Croatian defender has been the mainstay of RB Leipzig’s defence in the ongoing season. He has featured in 36 matches for the German club and has three goals to his name. Leipzig have the third-best defence in the league having conceded just 35 goals. And, the 21-year-old’s performance has played a big part in it.

While his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2027, the Croatian international could be on the move in the summer given the amount of interest in his services. With quite a few years still left in the 21-year-old’s contract, Leipzig have the upper hand in negotiations and will demand a package of around £80 million including add-ons and bonuses.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been keen on the Croatian centre-back for a while now. Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing a new centre-back ahead of next season as he looks to revive his team. Gvardiol was one of the priorities for the Merseyside club. But, it seems they are no longer interested in his services.

As per the report, Liverpool consider the £80 million price tag to be too big. The Merseyside club consider the price tag to be unrealistic and are no longer interested in pushing for his services.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are also keen on the 21-year-old. The London club are looking to add depth to their defence ahead of next season. They have not been at their best and are looking to add the needed reinforcement to end their trophy drought.

Spurs want to sign a centre-back who can challenge the likes of Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. And, Gvardiol surely can be regular from the star. However, with multiple clubs interested in his services, it won’t be an easy task to land the Croatian star.
