Aston Villa plotting summer move for Facundo Medina

Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of 23-year-old centre-back Facundo Medina ahead of next season.

According to Ignazio Genuardi, Aston Villa want to sign Facundo Medina in the summer. The 23-year-old has been doing wonders in the ongoing season. And, there are quite a few clubs from across Europe following the Argentine international.

Medina is being regularly followed by Spanish as well as Italian clubs. And, of late English clubs have also shown their interest in the 23-year-old Lens defender.

The Argentine international started off at River Plate. While he did show signs of progress in the initial years he failed to go up the ranks into their first team. The 23-year-old then joined CA Talleres where he had an impressive spell.

French club Lens ended up signing the centre-back in the summer of 2020. And, he has gone from strength to strength. He has featured in 89 matches for the French club since joining them and has 11 goal contributions.

He has taken his game to the next level in the ongoing season. The 23-year-old has been involved in 29 matches and has 7 goal contributions. The Argentina international’s impressive defensive performance in the ongoing season have attracted the attention of Aston Villa as well as a few other clubs.

While Medina’s contract at Lens runs until the summer of 2026, Villa are ready to prise him away from the French club ahead of next season. Unai Emery has done wonders since taking over the reins of Aston Villa.

Despite having a poor start to the season, Villa are currently sixth in the Premier League. They have managed to accumulate 50 points in their 31 matches. And they are well on track to secure a European spot for next season.

The Spanish manager has turned around the fortunes of the English club. And, now he has his eyes set on the summer transfer window. Emery wants defensive reinforcement and would love to have the services of Medina.

The 23-year-old has done wonders in the ongoing season and Emery believes his arrival could take his team to the next step. However, there are quite a few other clubs that are interested in Medina’s services. Brighton are one of the clubs that could push Villa all the way for his services.
