Predicted Arsenal lineup against Liverpool: Saliba a huge doubt; Saka, Jesus to start

Arsenal are set for a tough visit to face Liverpool at Anfield, with William Saliba a doubt for the Gunners.

Arsenal will visit Anfield brimming with confidence for the first time in a long while. The North Londoners are on a seven-game winning run in the league and will aim to collect three more points despite the quality of opponents in front.

Arsenal have not tasted a win at Anfield since 2012. Journalists asked many questions about this record and the feeling during the pre-match press conference. They even asked Arteta about some of the injured players.

Arteta remained tight-lipped about those updates and gave very little away. The media were curious about William Saliba’s status. But the Arsenal boss gave a tiny hint, possibly aimed at the French defender.

Arteta said, “There are no real changes with the rest of the players who were still injured. We have some hope with one of them tomorrow – maybe he’s able to train.”

Arteta got asked a series of questions, with one of them being on having to choose to drop one of the in-form forwards. Leandro Trossard has excelled since joining. He also scored a hat-trick at Anfield with Brighton earlier this season.

The tough decision could revolve around the selection of either Trossard or Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian notched two goals last weekend in his first Premier League start since the injury sustained at the World Cup.

Arteta continued, “Well, it depends on the moment and what we want to do and the quality we are seeking and the relationships that we want on certain days. Then obviously you have five changes, so you have the ability to change the game with those players, which is great for us. It’s much better to have that problem because at the moment they are all looking really good.”

On the predicted lineup, Arteta could name an identical lineup that beat Leeds United with only one change on the cards. Aaron Ramsdale will start in goal, with a now familiar back four of Ben White, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes and Oleksandr Zinchenko lining up in front of him.

Thomas Partey will sit at the base of midfield, with Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka on either side of the Ghanaian enforcer. Bukayo Saka will return to the starting lineup. Jesus will lead the line with Gabriel Martinelli on the left, while Trossard will take up a bench role for this clash.

Predicted Arsenal XI: Ramsdale; Ben White, Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli
