Manchester United in transfer tussle to sign Maurits Kjaergaard

Manchester United enter the race for the signatures of the 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Manchester United are interested in Maurits Kjaergaard. The 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder has impressed one and all with his performances. And, he is on the radar of many top clubs across Europe.

United are one of the clubs that are scouting him at the moment. They are impressed with what they have seen from the Denmark Under-21 star and might push for his signatures in the summer. However, there are other young players on their radar and they are not the only ones keen on the 19-year-old.

Romano said: “Maurits Kjaergaard of Red Bull Salzburg is an emerging talent catching the eye, but he is really just one of many, many players scouted by Manchester United,”

“Top clubs always scout the best young talents, and he’s certainly one of them. But it’s not just Manchester United watching his progress, there are five or six top clubs following him.”

Kjaergaard joined the Austrian club back in the summer of 2019 from Lyngby BK Youth. He was sent out on loan immediately after joining the club. The teenage midfielder has gone from strength to strength in the last few seasons.

He has managed to make a name for himself in the Red Bull Salzburg squad after returning from his loan move. The 19-year-old now has made over 50 appearances for the Austrian club’s first team and has 19 goal contributions to his name. Kjaergaard has six goals and 13 assists to his name.

His development at the club is being tracked by Manchester United. While the 19-year-old’s contract at the club runs until the summer of 2026, he might be on his way out in the upcoming transfer window given the amount of interest in his services.

Erik ten Hag wants more depth in the centre of the park. He is likely to offload a few senior players in the summer and bringing in the 19-year-old could solve quite a few headaches for the club in the long run. Initially, he can start as a rotational player and eventually make it as a regular.

However, it won’t be easy for United to sign the teenage sensation as a lot of top clubs are monitoring him according to Romano. As a result, it will be interesting to see where the 19-year-old plays his football next season.
