Liverpool have been linked with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes, with a deal likely.
Liverpool reportedly scouted Matheus Nunes during his time at Sporting CP and could look to make a move for him at the end of the season. Journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed to Give Me Sport that there is a scope that the transfer could go through this summer.
“I think he’s highly rated by Liverpool because they were scouting him during his time at Sporting. Interestingly, I don’t think Nunes is that highly rated by Lopetegui. He’s not always in the team, he usually is, but he’s not played every week like Neves or Moutinho.
“I thought at the start of the season that Nunes would come into a league of his own at Wolves and be the heir to Neves. They are slightly different players, but I think there is scope for a deal to be done there.”
The 24-year-old has established himself as an important first-team player for Wolves, and he has impressed at his new club. Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements. And the Portuguese international has emerged as a viable target.
The 24-year-old could be the ideal alternative to players like James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will leave the club as free agents at the end of the season. Apparently, the midfielder is valued at around £50 million. And it remains to be seen whether the Reds are prepared to pay that kind of money to secure his services.
The midfield unit has been a major concern for Liverpool this season. So Jurgen Klopp must look to address his side’s weaknesses during the summer transfer window. Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent months including the Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
It will be interesting to see if Klopp can bring in multiple midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window and turn Liverpool into title contenders once again. The opportunity to join a big club like Liverpool is likely to be a tempting proposition for Nunes and he is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing under a world-class manager like Klopp.
