Manchester United battle Real Madrid for Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are set to battle it out with Real Madrid for the signature of 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund.

According to Tipsbladet, Manchester United are interested in signing Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund amidst interest from Real Madrid. Hojlund is one of the hottest properties in world football at this point in time, with a lot of clubs, including Real Madrid, interested in the services of the 20-year-old.

The Denmark Under-21 star has been on fire in his debut season in Serie A. He has already scored six goals in the Italian top flight and will be looking to add a few more before the end of the season.

It has been an impressive season for the young forward so far, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Big clubs from across Europe are interested in his signature. The 20-year-old joined Serie A side Atalanta in the summer.

Prior to his arrival in Italy, he was a part of the Austrian club Sturm Graz. It has been an absolutely sensational season for the young forward, who has been involved in 18 goals in his 29 matches. Hojlund on average has been involved in a goal every 136 minutes.

The Danish striker has a contract with Atalanta that ends in the summer of 2027. A move in the summer looks unlikely despite reports of him being unhappy with the amount of game time. The priority will be to stay at the Serie A club for another season. But with interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, anything is possible.

According to the report, Manchester United have entered the race for the 20-year-old striker and are ready to battle it out with Real Madrid. The Red Devils will enter the summer market desperate to sign a new striker. Wout Weghorst will return to his parent club after his loan expires in the summer. And, Anthony Martial has struggled with injuries of late.

Erik ten Hag will look to bring in a young forward who could share the goalscoring duties with Marcus Rashford. While they will also focus on renewing Rashford’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2024, Hojlund looks like the perfect player for United. The Red Devils need a proper number nine who can be a part of the club in the long run.

On the other, Real Madrid are looking for an eventual replacement for Karim Benzema. The French forward is already 35 and is not getting any younger. The Real Madrid skipper’s contract expires in the summer, and Carlo Ancelotti has a lot to think about.

Even if Real Madrid manage to seal an extension, they will look to bring in a striker next season to use him as a rotation. Ancelotti believes the 20-year-old will be a good fit at the club and bringing him next year could prove handy. Manchester United have entered the race but it won’t be easy given the interest from Los Blancos. It will be interesting to see if Hojlund leaves Atalanta ahead of next season.
