Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Spanish defender Pau Torres in the summer of 2023.
According to a report by Fichajes.Net, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for 26-year-old Pau Torres. Spurs want to sign Torres from Villarreal to strengthen their defence as they look to assemble a squad that can finally lift a major silverware.
A lot of clubs have been interested in Pau Torres over the past few seasons. He is a quality defender who is great in the air and has great control on the ball. Conte wants to add more quality at the center-back position and is highly interested in having Torres at the club.
The Spanish center-back has been a part of Villarreal ever since his childhood days. He has come up through the ranks at Villarreal. He joined Malaga on a one-year loan back in 2018 to get some first-team action. After returning to the parent club, he started getting first-team action and eventually became a regular.
The 26-year-old Spanish central defender has made over 150 appearances for Villarreal and has put in some stellar performances at the heart of the defence. In the ongoing season, he has featured in 22 matches across all competitions for the Spanish side.
Meanwhile, Pau Torres’s contract at Villarreal ends in the summer of 2024. He will have a year left in his contract in the summer and is expected to leave the club. Quique Setien’s side is expected to sell him to raise funds for transfers and keep their accounts in check.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in transition and they have been decent in the ongoing season. Conte’s men will have to make a few good signings for them to take the next step. And, one of their major concerns of late has been the defence.
They don’t really have much depth in the center-back department. And, will have to add a few defenders to have a quality squad that can be rotated and can challenge for titles. Meanwhile, the Spanish defender has been a long-time transfer target for the London-based club. Pau Torres has been a star performer for his club and country. If Spurs manage to get his signature, they will surely bolster their defence and most likely compete for the Premier League title next season.
