Tottenham submit bid to sign Thierry Small

Tottenham have made an offer to sign young Southampton defender Thierry Small permanently before the deadline on Tuesday.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have made a bid to sign high-rated 18-year-old defender Thierry Small from Southampton. The teenager has other offers, including for loan moves from Scottish Premiership clubs, with the Saints open to a departure.

Tottenham will hope for a busy deadline day on Tuesday as they ponder new signings to strengthen their squad. Antonio Conte is keen to bolster the defensive ranks of his team and has always wanted at least two defenders in this window.

They have chased Sporting CP right back Pedro Porro. But the move broke down earlier on Monday. That may have pushed Spurs a bit in their plans to strengthen their squad, and they may also look at viable options for other positions.

They hold an interest in young Southampton defender Thierry Small. The 18-year-old defender knows the Saints are open to a sale, as they know the teenager is not part of their plans for the future. Tottenham have since made a bid to sign him permanently.

While Southampton are open to a sale, the report claims they have rejected the bid from Tottenham. They are possibly seeking a decent sum for the defender, which indicates that Spurs’ offer is low compared to their valuations.

Small also has two loan offers from Scottish Premiership sides, with St. Mirren being one of them. Tottenham consider Small a player with a huge potential to succeed in the top flight in the coming years. They want to acquire him now and let the player learn the trade with experienced professionals like Ivan Perisic at the club.

They believe Small can break into the first team but has been constantly overlooked at Southampton. Whether or not Tottenham return with an offer remains the question. Their interest is genuine, and there is every possibility of a deal concluding on Tuesday.

Small is a versatile defender capable of operating on the wings or as a fullback. He could even form a part of a back three on the left-hand side, which could please Conte.

Small joined the Saints from Everton after becoming their youngest player to make a senior appearance. He came on as a substitute in January 2021 in an FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, aged 16 years and 176 days. He still has a deal with Southampton until 2024, which could allow the Saints to demand a reasonable sum.
