West Ham United eyeing Mama Balde move

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Mama Balde from Ligue 1 club Troyes this month.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham United are looking to get their stuttering season back on track. And David Moyes is hoping to bring in attacking reinforcements that can improve his side in the final third. The Hammers have thus set their sights on Mama Balde.

West Ham are currently 18th in the Premier League table, and they are in real danger of going down to the EFL Championship unless things improve dramatically.

The offensive unit has faltered since the start of the season, and they have been toothless in front of goal. Players like Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca have failed to live up to the expectations. And it is high time the Hammers look to invest in a quality goalscorer. Mama Balde has thus emerged on West Ham’s radar.

Balde has been in impressive form for the Ligue 1 club this season, scoring eight goals and picking up four assists in Ligue 1. The 27-year-old is at the peak of his career and could prove to be a useful addition to the West Ham attack during the second half of the campaign.

The forward is reportedly valued at €15 million, and West Ham should look to secure his services as soon as possible. The price seems quite reasonable for a player who has proven himself in Ligue 1. And signing him could prove to be the difference between safety and relegation for West Ham.

The east Londoners were expected to challenge for European qualification this season after the massive backing Moyes received in the transfer window at the start of the campaign. But things have not gone to plan for the Scottish manager. And it remains to be seen whether he can hold on to his job by transforming West Ham’s fortunes during the second half of the campaign.

As for Balde, the opportunity to join a Premier League club is likely to be an attractive proposition. And the 27-year-old will be keen for the transfer to get over the line in the next few days. It would be a major step up in his career and he will be determined to prove his worth in a better league. But West Ham have other strikers, including Terem Moffi, on their radar as well and will keep their options open.
